This morning my communion meditation is specifically for all of our children present. So if you don’t yet have your drivers license, or are this tall, or can at least understand what I am saying and are here with your mom and dad—this is especially for you.
You need to know that this church, this worship service, the songs we sing, Pastor Toby’s sermon, and all of the pastors and elders and deacons here are for you. As you look around, these are your people, this is God’s church, and you are here to worship Him along with everyone else.
This is all a great blessing. God has placed you in a home that loves Him, with parents that teach you about Jesus, His Word, and how to obey Him. Many children do not have that gift. And so just like everything else, what we are about to celebrate now, called the Lord’s Supper or Communion, is for you too.
This bread is a picture of Christ’s body, which was broken for you. And this wine is a picture of His blood which was poured out for you. This is a meal that Jesus made for His people and that He has then made for you.
Are you baptized? Excellent. That means God has brought you into His family. Do you love Jesus? Wonderful. That means His Spirit is in your heart. And better yet, does Jesus love you? He absolutely does. For He once said to His disciples, “Let the children come to me, for of such is the kingdom of heaven" (Mt. 19:14).
So along with all of God’s people—Come, and welcome, to Jesus Christ.
