Thanksgiving for the Body
Eucharistic Meditation
As I considered our congregation sending out the Madsens two years ago, I looked up our attendance numbers to see what their last experience at our church had been like. I discovered that in just two years, we have grown by 50%, at least in attendance.
As Pastor Toby just preached, while this growth comes with challenges, it also brings many blessings. One of those blessings is the great privilege of sharing the Lord’s Supper every Sunday with this many saints.
Here, gathered in this field house, is God’s church. Here are God’s people, the redeemed of the Lord. As the Apostle Peter wrote, when you look around this room, you are observing a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and God’s own special people—those called to join together in praise to the One who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Pet. 2:9). When you see this scene rightly, you begin to understand David’s psalm, which begins, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord’” (Ps. 122:1).
Therefore, as you receive this bread and wine, do so with your eyes open. Remember the true blessing that you have to be with God’s people each week, and with great thanksgiving, Come and welcome to Jesus Christ.
This communion meditation was given on September 28, AD 2025 at King’s Cross Church in Moscow, Idaho.
